Do you appraise houses?

Capital Valuation Group does not typically do residential appraising, however, Powell & Grewe, who also work in our office, do most of the residential work that comes to us. Many times, we will do appraisals on various properties belonging to one owner. In these cases, we often do the commercial/industrial or agricultural properties and we contract Chris Powell, of Powell & Grewe, to complete the residential properties for us. If you have a residence in Marion, Polk, Linn, Benton or Lincoln counties that you would like appraised, feel free to contact Chris at 1-800-375-6494, or e-mail him at powellgrewe@qwest.net.

How does one become a "Certified Appraiser" or "Appraiser Assistant"?

In order to become a State Registered Appraiser Assistant, one must take 3 classes: Basic Appraisal Principles & Practices, Applied Residential Appraisal and Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). When these three classes have been completed, one must find a Supervisory State Certified Appraiser to train him/her. This obtained, one can request a registration from the State of Oregon, and begin training as an Appraiser Assistant. This takes 2 1/2 years, or 3,000 hours of experience before one can be Certified. In order to obtain certification, more classes are required. Income Property Principles and Methodology, Applied Income Property Appraisal and various electives must be taken, and then an examination given and passed before Certification is given. Once certified, designations such as MAI and ARA can be obtained through further schooling. Certified Appraisers are also required to take continuing education courses.
